JACKETS ROLL

The Williamsburg Yellow Jackets turned in another dominating performance last week as they rolled past the Pineville Mountain Lions, 40-0 in the first game of the City/County Bowl at Middlesboro.
Coach Jerry Herron said his defense really came to play holding the Lions under 100 yards rushing. “I thought our defense played very well.”
The Yellow Jackets put so much heat on the Lions in the first quarter the teams had to have a half-hour break in between quarters. “It was just a crazy game,” Herron said. “We played the first quarter then it was delayed for 30 minutes.”
When the game resumed the Jackets forced Pineville into a turnover, but failed to score. With Pineville trying to pick up some momentum, quarterback Jamie Roan was intercepted by freshman Jefferson Patrick. Williamsburg drove the ball down the field, but the drive stalled at the Pineville 15-yard line.
Once again, the Lions turned the ball over to Williamsburg, but this time, freshman quarterback Dalton Sizemore hit Logan Hamblin on the left side of the field and the junior ran over a couple of defenders and into the end zone from 15 yards out. Sizemore connected on a two-point conversion with Micah Purdie to put the Jackets ahead, 22-0.
Skyer Griffith, a freshman, opened the second half with a touchdown run, but a penalty on the play wiped out the 60-yard gallop.
Williamsburg scored on the drive when Sizemore, looking to run, was hit, but pitched the ball out to Hamblin, who went in from four yards for the score with 5:24 left in the quarter.
Mistakes continued to hurt the Lions as Williamsburg’s Purdie intercepted a pass with 2:12 left in the quarter. It didn’t take long for Sizemore to get in the end zone for the score. His TD run of seven yards put the Jackets ahead, 34-0.
Griffith, who had two TD’s called back, finally cross the end zone midway through the fourth quarter on a 9-yard pass from Hamblin.
For the game, Sizemore had 146 yards passing and another 79 rushing the football.
Williamsburg returns home Friday night for Homecoming 2011. They will play the Leslie County Eagles. “They have a good solid football team,” said Herron. “They will spread the ball out. Leslie County has a good quarterback and a couple of good receivers.”
The Eagles opened the season with a 27-6 loss to Powell County, but beat Magoffin County 40-10 and Allen Central 24-8.
