Beating, car theft ‘all over a girl,’ local police say

Police are looking for a local man, 25-year-old Robert Jones, after he allegedly beat another man, stole his car and dumped it in Laurel Lake. The vehicle was removed from the lake at 312 boat dock Tuesday afternoon.
Corbin Police are searching for 25-year-old Robert Jones whom they said beat a man with a 2-by-4 and then stole his car before dumping it in the Laurel River at the 312 boat ramp early Monday morning.
"All of this was over a girl," Corbin Police Sgt. Glenn Taylor said.
Taylor said the victim, identified as David Jordan, a juvenile and two other men came to an apartment on Fourth Street in Corbin to pick up a woman, Amanda Jean Cox.
"She said she was going to leave the guy at the apartment and go back to Barbourville," Taylor said.
A fight broke out, during which Taylor said the two-by-four came into play. Jordan, who had been hit in the head, was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Upon his arrival, police were contacted to report the assault and the stolen car and went to the apartment as part of the investigation.
When they arrived, Taylor said a girl and a guy were seen fleeing. The woman, later identified as Cox, 27, of Flat Lick, was chased down by police and tazed before they were able to take her into custody.
"She said she was scared and thought she might have a warrant," Taylor said.
Through further investigation, police learned that the car had been dumped in the river. Tuesday afternoon, Corbin Firefighter Alex Onkst, a certified scuba diver, searched the river near the boat ramp and located the car. Wallens Towing came out and pulled the car from the water.
Police are continuing to search for Jones. He is described as 5’6", 195 pounds with dark hair and a very small goatee. Anyone with information about his location is asked to contact Corbin Police, 528-1122.
"He has not left the area," Taylor said of Jones.
Taylor added that the investigation is continuing and more arrests may follow.
"She is a suspect in the assault as well," Taylor said of Cox.
