Corbin man captured after allegedly robbing 92-year-old business owner

A Corbin man is being held in the Laurel County Detention Center on a $50,000 for allegedly beating and robbing a 92-year-old business owner in London.
According to Sheriff John Root, Leonard Wayne Helton, 23, was arrested at his home Tuesday afternoon following an investigation by Detective Charlie Loomis.
Root stated that one Friday afternoon, Helton and another man allegedly came to Russell Brown’s recycling business to sell some aluminum cans.
Brown was hit in the head with an unidentified item and robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash.
Loomis, working with Detective Sgt. Tommy Johnston and Detective Daryl Zanet identified Helton as a suspect in the case.
Working in conjunction with Knox County Sheriff’s deputies Chad Wagoner and Adam Townsley, Loomis went to Helton’s home on Ky. 2417 and took him into custody on charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree assault
According to Sheriff Root, Brown suffered lacerations to the head and was treated and released from St. Joseph Hospital in London.
