Corbin residents arrested after numerous meth labs found in their home
Police descended on a Sixth Street home in Corbin last week and found numerous "one-step" methamphetamine labs. Two people were arrested in the process.
Thirty-eight-year-old Jimmy Gilbert Jr. and 37-year-old Heather Miller, both of Corbin, were arrested and charged with drug offenses following the raid at 602 W. Sixth Street on Friday.
According to Corbin Police, authorities, with the help of a confidential informant, were able to purchase methamphetamine and the prescription painkiller Hydrocodone from the residence. The controlled drug buy was the basis for a search warrant that police later used to search the home.
Four one-step methamphetamine labs that were fully functional, but not currently in production, were discovered.
Laurel County Division of Public Safety Manager Albert Hale was contacted and performed clean up of the meth labs from the residence.
Corbin Building Inspector Frank Burke said he has condemned the home and will be recommending that it be demolished because of its condition and possible contamination. One of the meth labs, he said, was hidden in the ceiling.
Burke performed an inspection of the home while police were still in the process of their on-site investigation.
Gilbert and Miller were lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center and remained there as of press time Tuesday. Both are charged with manufacturing methamphetamine. Additionally, Gilbert faces charges of trafficking in a controlled substance first-degree, trafficking in a controlled substance second-degree and trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school. They are being held on $50,000 bond.
Gilbert is scheduled to make an appearance in Whitley District Court in Corbin on Dec. 27 at 9:00 a.m.
Corbin Police K-9 Officer Coy Wilson is continuing an investigation into the case. Maj. Rob Jones, Sgt. Jason Moore, Sgt. Rick Backer, Det. Bill Rose, Det. Rusty Hedrick, Ptl. Wade Mitchell and Ptl. Ken Proffitt all assisted in the investigation.
