The Corbin Redhounds’ defense came up huge Thursday night in a 46-42 win over the Bell County Bobcats, the 13th region’s number 2 team.
After trailing for most of the first and second quarter, the Redhounds went to the half tied, 19-19. Corbin took several four-point leads early in the third quarter only to see the Bobcats come back and take a 40-36 lead into the final period thanks to back-to-back three-pointers by Kyle Lee.
The Bobcats stretched the lead to six (42-36) with the first basket of the fourth quarter, but those were the only points Bell County would score as Corbin went on a 10-0 run to win the game. Zach Farley gave Corbin the lead with 2:23 left in the game, then nailed two free throws with :26 seconds remaining. Hunter Grubb put the game away with a free throw with just 4.6 left in the game as Corbin took a 46-42 lead preventing a hail mary to tie the contest.
Farley led the Redhounds with 14 points while Smith added 12 points. Lee topped all scorers with 16 points while Porter added 15 points.
The win was Corbin’s second in a row, as they upped their record to 11-8 on the season. Bell County, who knocked off the Clay County Tigers Tuesday night, 70-54, fell to 16-7 on the year. Corbin will host the 6-12 Pineville Lions tonight at Gilliam Gym.
