TOUGH LOSS

It wasn’t a happy Homecoming for the Lynn Camp Wildcats Thursday night. After a skirmish in the JV game that got some of the top Wildcat reserves suspended from the varsity contest, the Cats played poorly in the varsity contest, losing to lowly Monticello, 62-56.
Lynn Camp had beaten this same Monticello team, 57-51 on the road Jan. 13.
The Wildcats looked impressive in the first eight minutes and looked like they were going to rip the Trojans for an easy win as they jumped out to a ten-point lead (19-9) and led 22-14 at the first stop.
Lynn Camp Coach Clyde Dixon was disappointed with his team’s play in the second quarter as Monticello came back to take a 35-34 lead at the half. “Give Monticello credit they wanted it more than Lynn Camp. They played harder and done a good job.”
“It hurt us when we lost a couple of players in that JV deal, but that’s no excuse. They just out-played us. We must have missed 15 lay-ups tonight,” Dixon said.
“We took a leap backwards tonight,” he said. “The way they beat us is the way we beat them over there. We made lazy passes and had turnovers. We came out in the first quarter and played the way we are capable of, but we ended by taking a big step backwards.”
Monticello senior Aaron Perkins poured in 31 points to lead the Trojans to the win. Senior Kevin Simpson added 14 points. Junior Matthew Trosper with 20 points led Lynn Camp while Shawn Couch added 10 points to the Wildcats’ totals.
Lynn Camp is scheduled to play at Burgin tonight and will face Harlan at home for “Senior Night” Tuesday.
