Corbin police investigating alleged downtown drive-by shooting

Corbin police are investigating an alleged drive-by shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon in downtown Corbin.
According to Corbin Police Public Affairs Officer Rob Jones, 36-year-old Robert Mayfield told authorities that he was walking along Kentucky Ave. near the intersection of Gordon Street "when he heard a boom." He looked around and saw a black Ford pickup truck with what appeared to be a shotgun barrell hanging out the window. Mayfield sought cover in a nearby ditchline.
Jones said Mayfield flagged down a motorist and was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center where a single birdshot pellet was removed from his arm. A few others had penetrated his clothing.
Mayfield said he didn’t not identify the vehicle involved and that the shooting appeared random.
He was released from the hospital later in the day.
Authorities say the incident happened at about 4:00 p.m. Tuesday. Police have not been able to locate any witnesses to the shooting.
Corbin Police Det. Bill Rose is investigating the case.

I was not pleased to see this headline. I’m from a large city in California where drive-bys are done with AK47s. I hate to hear that West Coast mayhem is rubbing off on KY in anyway! At least it was birdshot and not a regular rifle bullet. By the way, barrell is supposed to be spelled barrel. Who edits the copy at News-Journal?

I thought the DROP MOB had all graduated and moved on? There are idiots around here and all it takes is one incident like this to get on the news. Remember the two that went on a shooting spree in the DC/VA area a few years ago. We will never know what motivates people to do things like this.
The cops in corbin are improving, but until the high turnover in personnel stops and better pay is implemented you are going to have a constant rookie force.
