Officials: Arson suspected in fire that destroyed mobile home in Woodbine

Woodbine Firefighters have called in an arson investigator to look into the fires that destroyed a mobile home on Ky. 6, damaged a second and burned about five acres of woods Friday.

Woodbine Fire Chief Rick Fore said there was evidence of a fire accelerant on the floor of the first trailer. That, and the timing of the two fires on the property owned by Jerry Grubb, has resulted in the investigation.

Firefighters were called to the first trailer fire about 11:30 a.m. As firefighters pulled up to the scene and began pulling hoses and equipment from the truck, they were told the second trailer, which was just on the other side of the hill on which the two had been set, was also burning

"A car pulled up and stopped on the road and the people told us the other trailer was on fire," Fore said. "Me and a couple of other guys grabbed a truck and headed that way."

While the first trailer suffered serious damage, Fore said firefighters were able to contain the damage on the second trailer to the living room area. He added their efforts kept the flames away from a storage shed attached to the second trailer, inside of which were propane, acetylene and oxygen tanks, along with paint and other flammable items.

However the flames from the first trailer spread to the woods and sparked the fire that destroyed about five acres. Bailey Switch Fire Department brought in tanker trucks to help keep water flowing as firefights work to extinguish the blaze.

Fore said the last firefighters cleared the scene about 3:45 p.m.

No one was injured in the fire.

The investigation is continuing.
