Second Annual NIBROC Just Lose It competition gets off to good start
At least 115 people have signed on to fight the battle of the bulge in the second annual Nibroc Just Lose It competition.
Contestants came down to Corbin City Hall Saturday morning to sign up and face the scale at the Corbin Recycling Center for the first time.
"I just need to lose weight and I was able to convince some of my friends to do it with me," Jamie Bray said when asked why she was signing up for the competition.
Patricia Tucker was another one who threw her hat into the ring.
"I’m doing it to build self confidence and get healthy," Tucker said.
While the contestants are thinking about shedding the pounds and leading a healthier lifestyle, organizers are again dangling that little extra incentive. The person who loses the greatest percentage of body weight will once again receive $1,000.
Rhonda Lyliston, who participated in the 2011 competition, admitted the cash is a driving force for her.
"I want that thousand dollars," Lyliston said.
Contestants will be on their own as far as diet and exercise. They will come to the Corbin Recycling Center every two weeks to step on the scale and track their progress. The results of the weigh-in on July 28 will determine the top 20 with the final weigh-in set for Aug. 11.
Organizers have emphasized the only people who will see the number displayed on the scale will be the participant and the person taking the weights.
Dortha Weber said more contestants are welcome with the cutoff date being May 5 when the next weigh-in will be held and the contestants will receive their T-shirts.
Contestants are encouraged to wear their shirts when they are exercising as organizers will be on the lookout and can reward them with prizes.
Weber said 188 people participated in the competition in 2011 and organizers would like to meet or exceed that number this year.
Anyone interested in participating may sign up at the city collector’s office at Corbin City Hall during normal business hours or at the May 5 weigh-in which will take place between 10 a.m. and noon.
