Quillen and Hurst to be crowned Queen and Tiny Queen at the 2012 May Day Festival
The fundraising competition has ended and we have our 2012 May Day Queen and Tiny Queen. This year’s Queen is Callie Elizabeth Quillen, the daughter of Jodie Quillen and Danny and Mellisa Quillen.
This year’s Tiny Queen is Whitley Ella Hurst, daughter of Jason and Crystal Hurst.
First runner-up to the May Queen is Emily Ann Ely, daughter of Diane and Clayton Ely.
Second runner-up is Abbey Helton, daughter of David and Johnna Helton.
Third runner-up is Alisha Kersey, daughter of Andy and Tina Kersey.
Fourth runner-up is Bridgette Nichole Smallwood, daughter of Misty and Mike Smallwood.
Fifth runner-up is Taylor Rawlings, daughter of Steve Rawlings and Carla Rawlings.
Sixth runner-up is Brooklyn Keelee Shaye Ashurst, the daughter of Mike Ashurst and Becky Ashurst.
Rounding out the Court in alphabetical order are: Haley Alaina Abbott, daughter of Michael Abbott and Stacey Abbott; Ivy Lynn Anderson, daughter of Glen and Shelly Anderson; Lauren Alyssa Chadwell, daughter of Billy Jack and Tina Chadwell; August Rae Fox, granddaughter of James and Joyce Anderson; Kelsey Marie Brooklyn Powell, daughter of Wally and Jennifer Powell; Allison Grace Smith, daughter of Tammy and Chris Smith; and Sarah Steinbach, daughter of Renae Steinbach.
The 2011 May Queen, Cassidy Phipps, will present the crown to Corbin Mayor Willard McBurney, who will crown the new Queen. 2011’s Tiny Queen, Caroline Steely will crown her successor.
The attendants to the 2012 Tiny Queen are: first runner-up Lily Marie Robinson, daughter of Jeanne Johnson and Bill Robinson; second runner-up Rachel Grace Knuckles, daughter of Trent and Jennifer Knuckles; third runner-up Ainsley Gabrielle Keck, daughter of Jeff and Lori Keck; fourth runner –up Alanna Reese Martin, daughter of Beverly Barton and Matt Martin and granddaughter of Mr. & Mrs. H. Bryan Barton and Mr. & Mrs. Mike Martin; fifth runner-up Alana Carissa Stidham, daughter of Jimmy and Crystal Stidham; sixth runner-up Jaycee Sue White, daughter of Beth Cline and Jason White.
Rounding out the Tiny Queen’s Court in alphabetical order are: Luci Faye Burke, daughter of Johnny and Virginia Davis; Aubrey Grace Fugitt, daughter of Chad and Jennifer Fugitt; Doveanna Fay Graham, daughter of William and Heather Graham; Kennedie Guiher, daughter of Robert and Sherrie Guiher; Addyson Grace Henson, daughter of Allyson Martin and Antwan Henson; Marley Paige Hyden, daughter of Mandy Hyden and Mark Hyden; Aubreyann Alyce Maggard, daughter of Shane and Amanda Maggard; Katherine Grace Morton, daughter of Tony and Heather Morton; Hannah Grace Perry, daughter of Kelvin and Candace Perry; Grace Anne Rawlings, daughter of Steve Rawlings and Carla Rawlings; and Rylee Ann Southerland, daughter of Emily Shelton.
Following the crowning ceremonies, the courts will be honored by the presentation of the May Day program. The traditional winding of the May Pole will be presented by the Gail Frederick School of Dance.
This is the 69th May Day Festival, sponsored annually by the GFWC, Kentucky, Ossoli Club of Corbin. In the May Day Queen’s races, girls and young ladies compete to see who can raise the most money through sponsorship boxes placed in local businesses.
All proceeds from the May Day Festival will be used to fund the community service projects of the GFWC, Kentucky, Ossoli Club of Corbin, including donations to each school or preschool classroom that participates as performers. Other community service projects of the Ossoli Club include donations to the Corbin Public Library, sponsorship of the Corbin’s United Effort Home Education Program, sponsorship of the Corbin High School Academic Breakfast, purchase of equipment for the Piano Lab for CIS and CMS, donations to St. Camillus Academy projects and numerous other worthwhile causes throughout the year.
During the May Day Festival, set for 7:30pm Friday, May 4, at The Arena, local children from preschool to elementary ages will perform dances to this year’s theme, “Totally Awesome 80’s.”
Tickets to the event, which cost $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for students, can be purchased at The Arena box office when doors open at 5:30pm.
