WILLIAMSBURG SHUTOUT

The Williamsburg Track and Field Team had a strong finish in the Region 6 Class A Track Meet at Somerset last week, but the Yellow Jackets failed to make a showing in the 2012 Class A State Championship Thursday at the Owsley B. Frazier Cardinal Park at the University of Louisville.
Seventh grader Fhazaneh Jackson turned in the best performance of the day in the 100-meter dash when she finished ninth in a time of 13.04. It was a person best for Jackson. She was seeded 15th going into the race.
The Lady Jackets 4×200-meter relay team was 12th in the 23-team event. Miranda Peace, Jackson, Kacie Brown and Sarah Perkins on the relay team that recorded a time of 1:53.16.
That same team ran the 4×100-meter relay as well. They finished 14th in a time of 554.16.
Sophomore Natalie Croley finished 14th in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.56, She had been seeded with a time of 17.46.
The best for the boys’ came in the 4×200-meter relay and the 4×100-meter relay. They were 15th in the 4×200-meter relay in a time of 1:37.97. Jeffrey Bird, Brandon Lyons, Chris O’Dell and Dewayne Smith ran the race. Bird and O’Dell are seniors.
The 4×100-meter relay team was 15th as well in a time of 46.73. Bird, Smith, Chase Lowrie and Jheren Riley ran the race for the Jackets.
The boys’ competed in seven events while the Lady Jackets were in eight events.
Brandon Lyons and Alex Patterson failed to make the top 20 in the Pole Vault while Miranda Peace was 15th with a vault of 7-06. Bailee Jarboe had a vault of 6-06 for 23rd place.
Neither team scored in the team points that awarded the first eight places. St. Henry won the girls’ Class A State, edging out Newport Catholic, 98.50 to 93. Somerset, the winner of Region 6, finished ninth with 24 points.
St. Henry also took home the boys’ state title with a five-point victory over Fort Campbell, 77-72. Somerset was sixth with 38 points.
