AN EAGLE
Williamsburg senior Jared Barton has signed to play baseball at Alice Lloyd College.
Barton started the season with high hopes after starting for the Yellow Jackets since his eighth grade season.
Barton, a pitcher and center fielder for the Yellow Jackets, fought through a shoulder injury this season and thought his career might be over. But, he battled his injury and made his way back and now Alice Lloyd College Coach Scott Cornett has decided to take a chance on Barton.
“I really like the college,” Barton said. “It is small like Williamsburg. I have a friend from Clay County going there and thought it would be a good choice.”
Williamsburg Baseball Coach John Mountjoy said. “We are excited about Jared getting the opportunity to play at the next level especially with his injury. We worried that might hinder his move to the next level, but he has come on strong and recovered from that and has shown a lot of stuff.”
“I just glad for him to get an opportunity to play,” Mountjoy said. “He has been to doctors and they told him he has a fray and that through rehab that should be able to be completely corrected.”
“It killed us this year, but it is good for him on the long-term basis,” Mountjoy said. “He is very fortunate to recover and get the chance to move on.”
Alice Lloyd College plays in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with IU Southeast, Brescia University, Asbury University and Berea College. The Eagles recently finished the season with a 17-22 record just four games behind league champion, IU Southeast.
