Corbin police arrest man who blasted through barricade, nearly hit construction worker
Corbin Police say the Corbin man arrested for barreling across a bridge closed for maintenance, nearly hitting a construction worker, claims he was having a seizure and doesn’t remember any of it.
Earl H. Roaden, 55, was arrested Friday morning when officers David Maiden and Lonnie Sizemore located his truck as he was coming down Beatty Ave.
"We knew the vehicle we were looking for," Maiden said, noting Roaden’s truck was a green Chevrolet Z71 extended cab pickup truck with a tool box in the back, as seen on surveillance video of the incident Thursday.
"We figured if he was coming through here, it was part of a pattern. Since the bridge was still closed, we looked for him coming down Beatty Ave."
Officers found the truck just after 9 a.m. and initiated a traffic stop. Debris left on the bridge was matched up to the damage on the truck, which included a busted mirror and headlights and windshield and body damage to the front end.
"The pieces we had when together on the truck just like a puzzle," Maiden said. When asked about the incident, Maiden said Roaden told them he must have blacked out between when he left Lowe’s and when he came down U.S. 25W. "He said he was coming from Lowe’s and going back to his house," Maiden said. "He had a receipt from Lowe’s that was time stamped at exactly 9 a.m."
Roaden reportedly told police while he has been prescribed medicine to control his seizures, he had not taken it in two days.
Police spoke with one of Roaden’s friends who said Roaden never takes his medication. Roaden was charged with four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and second-degree criminal mischief.
In addition, he was charged with possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle after police reported finding an open container when they stopped him Friday. As of Friday afternoon, no court date has been set in the case.
"When we go to court, we will request his medical records to see if he has been prescribed medication," Maiden said. "Maiden added this is not the first wreck that Roaden has been involved in. "There are at least four more, all of them in the last several months," Maiden said.

Geez, this is America. If we changed the rules around all the time because you feel like someone should be incarcerated for the past what kind of country would this be? He had a medical emergency… You need to open your eyes to the world around you. I hope you voice your opinion to some of the violence going on all around you.. Meth labs.. Pill heads… Perhaps stop hiding behind a mask and bashing someone on the internet, and get out and make a change in the world yourself
Correct… He was not arrested for that, nor would he have been arrested for it. it was a charge, but so is speeding. Its not DUI. Its not illegal to drink and drive, its just illegal to drive when “under the influence” of an intoxicating substance. Do you stand outside of any of the bars or restaurants in Corbin to make sure no one drives. I have never driven DUI, but I gotta say I have driven with a beverage before…. haha, not only that… i have had like atleast ten beer cans in the bed of my truck that had been thrown in. Should I be in jail? Even though I have never driven DUI?

They did not arrest on open container.. The arrest is Wanton Endangerment. Plus a friend that says he never takes his medication? how does he know? I’m his friend, and I know of him being pretty good at taking his medication minus forgetting every now and then. I have never heard of taking your meds being a license restriction. Its unfortunate he had a seizure and that was the result, but he was not drunk, hence the no DUI charge.. so at the end of the day, and speaking of law, it was nothing but a unfortunate accident due to a medical emergency. I saw him that day after he left Lowes.. He actually thought someone did that damage at Lowes , and had no idea what had happened. He was absolutely not drunk, nor had possession of an alcoholic beverage. He has a condition, and it was an accident. If you played online police due to past history, everyone in the world would be in jail.
Nope…no DUI…just an open container arrest…at 9:00am….and a witness/friend who says he NEVER takes his medication.
This case is not a DUI case Pudding Tang. Did you ready a KRS for DUI in his charges? He apparently had a medical emergency. I know Earl, and he would never mean to hurt anyone. Plus, I know he is prescribed medication for seizures. I have witnessed his seizures in the past, and they’re traumatic. It’s easy for people to come on here under a false name and talk about someone they have a problem with bad, but stick with the facts… not the fact your mad over some underlying BS
Earl is an alcoholic who has 5 Dui’s 1 got thrown out of court. This behavior has been going on for years -even before his cancer. The court system keeps letting him go. He has even had to pay for an electric pole that he knocked down. He is a drunk that does not need to be driving. If he killed your love one you would wonder how he gets away with all of his Dui’s
Agreed. My favorites are “busted” and “irregardless”. Mrs. Pope is rolling over in her grave.
When a person gets older and starts having medical problems that interfere with driving, it can be a traumatic thing. Having your license taken away is very difficult, but when the person almost kills someone like this guy it’s time to nang up the keys for good. Or take the medication. I have no sympathy for this guy he has been prsecribed medication to control the seizures but apparently doesn;t care.
Earl is a cancer patient so he is probably telling the truth

I would hope Maiden is smarter than to use “when” instead of “went”. These reporters are idiots that can’t spell.
