Whitley trio arrested in Laurel County on drug trafficking charges

Two Williamsburg men and a Corbin woman are facing drug trafficking charges in Laurel County after they allegedly sold Oxycodone pills to a confidential informant working for the sheriff’s department Tuesday night.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said deputies received a complaint of illegal drug trafficking on Church Lane in southern Laurel County.

Deputies arranged for the informant to purchase 10 Oxycodone from the trio, which they identified as Jimmie Canada, 64, and Jackie Sulfridge, 37, both of Williamsburg, and Ashley Sulfridge, 29, of Corbin, for $440.

Upon completion of the sale, deputies, led by detectives Jason Back and Brad Mitchell, moved in and arrested the suspects.

Acciardo said while the 10 Oxycodone pills were all of the drugs recovered, deputies did find and seize a large sum of U.S. currency.

The three suspects were each charged with one count of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance. In addition, Ashley and Jackie Sulfridge were each served with indictment warrants out of Whitley County. Ashley Sulfridge’s warrant was for manufacturing methamphetamine, while Jackie Sulfridge’s warrant included charges of manufacturing methamphetamine and persistent felony offender.

They were each lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
