Police looking for two suspects for violent home invasion robbery in Lily
Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for two white men who beat and robbed a Lily couple of their medication and cell phones at their home early Tuesday morning.
According to Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s Public Affairs Officer, two men, one wearing a ski mask and the other covered with face paint, both armed with clubs and pistols, approached Caroline Jones, 53, outside her home on Dogwood Lane about 12:20 a.m. The robbers then chased Jones into the house where they also encountered her
husband, Claude, 52.
"We don’t know what she was doing in the yard at that time of night," Acciardo said noting the cold weather.
After beating the couple with the clubs and threatening them with the guns, Acciardo said the robbers took the medications, which had recently been filled, along with the cell phones and then fled on foot. Investigators said it appears the robbers arrived on foot as well.
The Jones were treated at the scene for their injuries which Acciardo said included cuts and scratches.
As of Tuesday, Acciardo said it appears to be an isolated incident. Detectives have checked with neighboring counties but have not heard of any similar incidents.
Detective Charlie Loomis is leading the investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the sheriff’s department, (606) 864-6600.
