COLONELS OUSTED
The Whitley County Colonels saw their season come to an end at the hands of South Laurel Tuesday night, 66-47.
The Colonels got off to a slow start offensively while the Cardinals took an early 14-2 lead in the first four minutes.
Senior Matt Slavey scored eight of his 13 points in the first quarter as South Laurel took a 19-10 lead at the first stop.
South Laurel pushed its lead out to 25-12 before Whitley County closed out the quarter with a 7-6 run and trailed at the half, 31-19.
Whitley County, who finished with a 8-22 record, made a run at the Cardinals in the third quarter when they went on an 11-3 run and closed the gap to 38-32. The Colonels could have gotten much closer, but was three-of-eight from the line during the stretch.
A Baxter three-pointer stopped the bleeding for South Laurel and the Cardinals extended the lead to 47-33 by the end of the third period.
The Colonels, who were 12-of-29 from the line, never recovered in the final period.
Sophomore James Sasko led the Colonels with 14 points while Boston Bryant added 10 points in the loss.
