WHITLEY PULLS UPSET

Lady Colonels Coach Larry Anderson moves on to the semifinals of the 13th Region Tournament after guiding his team to an upset of Clay County in the first-round Wednesday night.
The Whitlety County Lady Colonels took a 6-4 lead on a three-point play by Brandi Smith and never trailed the rest of the way in an upset of Clay County, Wednesday night in the first-round of the 13th Region Tournament at Harlan County, 56-54.
Clay County kept it close by going inside to Cheyanne Madden and Morgan Chestnut, but the Lady Colonels answered with 12 three points in the win, 10 of which came in the first half as Whitley County built a 38-29 lead at the break.
Hallie Jones gave Whitley County its biggest lead of the game (45-35) with 2:26 left in the third quarter, but a 8-0 run by the Lady Tigers saw Clay County pull within two (45-43) with the first basket of the fourth quarter, a three-pointer by Ajaycia Cotton.
Sara Robinson tied the game at 50-50, but Smith hit back-to—back baskets to push the Lady Colonels ahead by four.
Clay County came back to tie the game in the final seconds, but a basket by Smith in some heavy traffic proved to be the game winner at the buzzer.
Smith led all scorers with 24 points while Maria Johnson added 18 points to the win.
Bell Co. 57, Lynn Camp 44
The Lynn Camp Lady Wildcats refused to quit, but lost to the Bell County Lady Kats, 57-44 in the second game.
The teams got off to a slow start as Lynn Camp took a 6-4 lead after the first eight minutes.
Bell County took a 17-point lead (35-18) in the third quarter, but Lynn Camp went on a 11-0 run early in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to five (42-37) before Katrina Johnson scored for the Lady Kats.
Bell County outscored Lynn Camp13-0 during a three-minute span that allowed the Lady Kats to go ahead 55-39 with 1:30 left in the game.
Senior Kayla Smith led Lynn Camp with 16 points.
