Large oak tree precariously looms over Tattersall couple’s home

A brief wind and rainstorm last week left a nasty surprise behind for a Tattersall couple returning home after being out of town for a few days.
Jim and Diane Becker are still searching for someone qualified to remove a large, decades old oak tree that is perched precariously over their Riva Ridge Trail home in the upscale Corbin subdivision.
"We had at least eight nice neighbors that called us to tell us about it," Diane Becker said. "They just started calling us one after another saying we have a problem."
The tree was knocked over by high winds during a brief storm March 24. The tall, venerable tree landed on top of another much like it – stopping it from plummeting on top of the house.
The Beckers, who have lived in the home for 32 years, said they had help securing the tree with ropes and steel cable temporarily, but have struggled to find anyone yet capable of removing it.
"We need someone with a boom truck so we can get up there and control the drop," Diane Becker said. "We’ve been calling but we just can’t find anyone. We may have to go to Richmond to find someone, I’m afraid."
"Right now we are just doing what we can do to try to make sure it doesn’t go any further."
She added that couple’s homeowner’s insurance likely would have paid to have the tree removed if it would have fallen on the house. Since it didn’t, they are on their own.
Anyone that owns or knows someone who operates a certified and bonded tree removal services is encouraged to call Diane Becker at 859-559-2241.
