The Whitley County Colonels swept a pair of district games from the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets Monday and Tuesday and forced a tie with the Corbin Redhounds for the number two seed.
The Colonels scored in every inning Monday at Briar Creek to post a 17-7 win over the Jackets. Stevie Watson got the win on the mound, allowing on five hits.
In Tuesday’s game at Whitley County High School, the Colonels came back from a 3-0 deficit to post a 12-4 win. The Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the top of the first, but the Colonels answered with six runs in the home half of the second.
Watson had a two-run homer in the game to lead the Colonels to their fourth straight win and sixth out of their last eight.
The Colonels (14-6) finished the district slate with a 3-3 record as did the Corbin Redhounds. The teams tied in the district tie-breaker and will have to flip a coin for the number two seed which will give the winner the “home” game as the two will play each other in the district tournament. South Laurel, the top seed, will meet the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets.
Whitley County is scheduled to play at Clay County today at 5:30 p.m.
Williamsburg, who lost for the seventh time in a row, will travel to Lynn Camp this afternoon in hopes of breaking the seven-game losing streak. The Jackets are 9-7 on the season.
