State Rep. Regina Bunch cited for driving 109 mph in Lexington
Local State Rep. Regina Bunch (R-Williamsburg) was cited Tuesday morning for going 109 mph in a 70 mph zone on I-75 by Lexington Police, and following the incident she is saying she was "wrong" and plans to plead guilty to the offense and pay any fines associated with it.
According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Bunch was cited by Lexington Police about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday during a traffic stop near the 108-mile-marker on I-75. The newspaper quotes Bunch as saying she wasn’t going that fast and planned to contest the ticket.
But through her personal Facebook page, Bunch denied saying she planned to fight the charge. Her response, in it’s entirety, reads as follows:
"Well, what a day! I got a speeding ticket and the Lexington Herald felt it important enough to share. I was in the wrong and to be honest was not paying attention to the speed, however there were people passing me. I know to watch the speed with that car because you will be look down and be driving a lot faster than you think. However, what really bothers me is that I never said that I was going to contest the ticket, I said there were others driving as I was, and some passing me. If i was going that fast we all were because I was in the flow of the traffic. Regardless, I was in the wrong and will pay the ticket. It is a lesson learned. I am guilty of being in a hurry and not paying attention. There are life lessons everyday, it was not my first mistake and I am sure it will not be my last. After the struggles that I have faced the last two years, I just pray to live, learn and try to be a better person everyday. Many days, I fall short, but I just thank God for his blessings and the desire to live again. Therefore, I have learned to be grateful for everything, including a speeding ticket and the person that have it to me."
Bunch’s response had 160 "likes" on the social media site as of noon Wednesday, and comments of support from many who read the explanation.
Bunch was cited for speeding last August as well in Lexington for doing 91 mph in a 70 mph zone. That charge was dismissed, along with several other traffic offenses.
Bunch’s legislative district includes Whitley County and a small portion of southern Laurel County.
According to Kentucky law, anyone caught driver 26-mph or faster over the posted speed limit can immediately lose their license for 90 days.

This is not the first time Regina Bunch has been cited for speeding. She was ticketed in the “EXACT” same location for doing more than 90 mph last August. The Lexington Police must have it in for Rep. Bunch. Thank God the Judge dismissed the case. Now we are looking at 109mph (same location) sounds funny to me. Not even a year ago (90 plus same location now 109 plus same location) what’s wrong with the Lexington Police to be targeting our State Rep. Bunch? I have seen on my Facebook page Shawn Jackson a Whitley County Sheriff Officer supporting Rep. Bunch (good for our Sheriff’s Office). Now does this mean that I can drive over 100mph in Whitley County (just joking Shawn)? I have never had a speeding ticket. I am so sorry this has happen to such a wonderful women. I understand Rep. Bunch has had so many horrible things on her plate. I have pity for this lady and pray the Lexington Police stop picking on her. We all support you Rep. Bunch and keep up the great work you have done for our District and any of us can make a mistake. I am just so sorry the Lexington Police are picking on you. Shawn you have my vote for jailer. Great move man!
She’ll plead guilty, pay a small fine and that’s the end of it.If it were an everyday day Joe they’d spend jail time, pay a big fine and lose the license
Doesn’t seem to have any regard for the safety of others does she?
