Showstoppers take 40th Woodbine

The Showstoppers of Nicholasville did put on a show to win the 40th Annual Woodbine Rebel Shootout Sunday at Day Field. The Showstoppers came out of the losers’ bracket to beat G-Sublimation of Frankfort, 23-20 and 13-12 in two very exciting games.
In the first game between the two, the Showstoppers came out of the gate with fire power and took an 11-4 lead in the game only to see G-Sublimation fight back with six in the third and eight in the fourth, taking an 18-12 lead.
Showstoppers was able to regain the lead in the bottom of the sixth with three runs and led 23-20 going into the seventh inning. It was the Showstoppers defense that stood tall in the seventh. They didn’t allow a runner in the bottom of the inning to force an extra game.
In the championship game the Showstoppers scored six runs in the top of the first to take a commanding lead only to see G-Sublimation fight back and take the lead, 9-8 after six innings of play.
That set up an exciting seventh inning. The Showstoppers scored four runs in the top half of the inning for a 13-9 lead.
However, the game was far from over as G-Sublimation scored two quick runs to pull within two (13-11). The next three batters loaded the bases, before lead off hitter, Bruce Fryman flew out. A run scored on the play to pull G-Sublimation within one (13-12).
A close play at first ended the game with a bit of controversy, but the Showstoppers were awarded the top trophy for the first time in the 40-year history of the tournament.
Marx HVAC, a local team, finished fifth in the tournament. They won three straight games before losing to G-Sublimation, 15-3 and Clay County, 21-10-. Chance Hendrickson earned a spot on the all-tournament team for his play.
