Williamsburg couple accused of forging prescriptions
A Williamsburg couple is free on $7,500 surety bonds after allegedly trying to fill a forged prescription at a local pharmacy.
On Nov. 5, Williamsburg Police responded to Drive-In Pharmacy after getting a report that Jim Frank Baird and Karen J. Stack allegedly tried to pass a forged prescription . The doctor was contacted and denied writing the prescription, Williamsburg Police Detective Bobby Freeman wrote on the arrest citations.
Baird and Stack allegedly fled the scene after employees realized that the prescription was forged, said Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird.
Bird said that the duo obtained a prescription blank and forged the doctor’s signature in an attempt to obtain 60 Xanax pills.
Bird said he isn’t sure whether the forged prescription had refills, but he suspects that it probably did.
"I would imagine that if they went to the trouble of forging it they probably had multiple refills," Bird noted.
Freeman arrested Baird, 46, of 1135 Perkins Road, about 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 6 at his residence and charged him with first-offense forgery of a prescription.
Bird said that Stack, 60, of 438 Foley Bend Road, turned herself in to police later that day, and was charged with the same offense.
Forgery of a prescription blank is a class ‘D’ felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
The duo is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 25 in Whitley District Court.
Williamsburg Police Officer Brandon White assisted with the investigation.
