A Homespun Christmas
Whether we like it or not, winter has arrived! If you still have last minute Christmas shopping to complete, join us for our Appalachian Winter Market at the Extension Community Arts Center, Saturday, December 14 from 2-7pm. Saturday will be a day full of Christmas cheer in downtown Williamsburg! The Main Street program has organized several festivities to bring you shopping, caroling and laughing downtown.
Appalachian Winter Market kicks off at 2pm, with over 25 vendors selling a wide variety of handmade and baked items. Stop by the Dogtrot Spinners and Weavers booth and watch them work with wool they’ve sheared from their own sheep. These artisans weave beautiful shawls, potholders and have hand-dyed yarn for sale as well as homemade jams and jellies for those late winter months when you want to tap into the taste of summer. There will also be several vendors with a variety of hand-knitted or crocheted hats, scarves, mittens and more. Whether you’re a Jacket, a Colonel or a Redhound you will find your school colors in a variety of styles!
We have several vendors offering an array of homemade sugar scrubs, herbal lip balm, hand salve, soap, lotion and more. These products work fantastic, smell great and compare to high-end department store products at a lower price. They are made with ingredients that are easy to pronounce like goat’s milk, sugar, honey, lavender and more. Why pay more somewhere else for a product that is not nearly as unique?
We have had many folks ask about the hand-made signs we have decorating the walls of our Extension Community Art Center. Lisa Bartram and her student workers at University of the Cumberlands have made special signs just for this Winter Market. They feature “My Old Kentucky Home”, “Merry Christmas” and more! You should probably arrive early to snag one for your front door, because I am planning on buying at least four of them for my friends and family.
We will also have jewelry, woodworking, baked goods, artwork, Christmas postcards and more. There is simply not enough room to list the amount of gifts that are waiting for you to purchase for your loved ones this holiday season. Make sure to come on down and join us, stay for the Christmas Parade and head to Bill Woods Park for Caroling and an Ornament exchange afterwards! Ring in the winter with your friends and family in our own small town Christmas.
