Laurel Deputies searching for Keavy Grocery burglar(s)
Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for the individual(s) who broke into the Keavy Grocery Store Wednesday morning.
According to Sheriff John Root, the burglar(s) shattered the glass in the front door to gain entry into the store at the intersection of Ky. 312 and Ky. 363.
Once inside, the individual(s) initially tried to force open an ATM machine, but were unsuccessful.
“They used some kind of blunt object,” said Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, noting there is no video surveillance, so it is uncertain what time the burglary occurred, or rather it was the work of one or more people.
The burglar(s) then went to work on a nearby quarter machine, using the blunt object to force it open and empty the contents.
“We didn’t find anything at the scene,” Acciardo said when asked what was used to smash the glass.
Acciardo said it is unknown whether this burglary is connected to similar burglaries at Forrest Lanes Bowling Alley in Corbin or Xpress Gas Station in the Goldbug community of Whitley County.
Area law enforcement is continuing to search for the perpetrators in both of those incidents.
Corbin Police Major Rob Jones said previously that based on video surveillance of those two incidents, different people are involved.
Anyone with information about the Keavy burglary is asked to contact the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department at 606-864-6600 or 606-878-7000. Callers may remain anonymous.
