Job posting for new tourism director will remain open through April 12
Last week, it was reported that Maggy Monhollen would be stepping down from her position as executive director of the Corbin Tourism and Convention Commission in order to accept the new role as the newest manager of the Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. The hunt is now on for a new tourism director in Corbin, and applications are currently being accepted through this Friday, April 12.
“We have posted the job through the Kentucky Travel Industry Association, the Statewide Tourism Director Association, the Kentucky League of Cities, the Corbin Tourism website, and local media,” explained Jeannie Hensley, who is the chairperson of the Corbin Tourism and Convention Board of Directors. “We have made every effort to get that posting out, and we will be taking a look at all applicants after April 12.”
Hensley and the tourism board held its final meeting with Monhollen at the helm on Tuesday. Most of the meeting was dedicated to several “administrative housekeeping” tasks that will help to ensure a smooth transition to whoever the next tourism director end up being.
“We are so appreciative of Maggy for her dedication, and for all of her achievements in the past ten years,” Hensley said. “She will be deeply missed.”
Indeed, whoever takes over the role of directing the tourism efforts in the City of Corbin next will have some rather large shoes to fill. Not just anyone will be able to step in and do this particular job, as the tourism board is looking for someone who, according to the job posting, can be a “dynamic and experienced executive director to lead our efforts in promoting tourism, managing destination marketing strategies, and fostering partnerships to drive economic growth and community development.”
The job posting describes the ideal candidate as someone who is a “strategic thinker with a passion for tourism, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of successful destination management.”
Some of the qualifications for the position include a bachelor’s degree in tourism management, marketing, business administration, or a related field, as well as a minimum of five years of experience in destination marketing, tourism management, or a related field. The board is also looking for someone who has experience in budget management, financial planning and grant writing.
Until a new director is in place, Hensley said that the board will work together to ensure all tourism and functions in the city continue to take place as scheduled. Other members of the board include Lisa Cradic, Sudhir Patel, Summer Jackson, Mitch Patel (recently replacing KT Patel), Ish Patel and Jackie Willis.
“At this time, our plan is to have someone in place as soon as possible,” Hensley said of hiring a new executive director. “We do not want to make any rash decisions, though, so we will just continue working together as a board until we can find the right person for this job.”
