Breaking: Maggy Monhollen announces resignation as executive director of Corbin Tourism and Convention Commission
It is the end of an era in the City of Corbin as longtime Director of Tourism, Maggy Monhollen, has announced her resignation after accepting the job as the newest manager of the Cumberland Falls State Resort Park.
“This is very bittersweet,” said Monhollen, who has served as Corbin’s Tourism Director since January of 2014. “The job at the Falls presented itself, and I saw it as an opportunity for growth and professional development. I felt that it would be a really good opportunity for me.”
As the director of tourism, Monhollen has worked closely with the state park over the years, meaning she will be in a good position to hit the ground running when she takes on her new role beginning April 16.
“I feel confident about my ability to pick things up quickly,” Monhollen said. “There will be different processes, and different aspects in this new job, but I feel very comfortable with the role because of many of the things that I have been doing already.”
Monhollen said that the board of directors of the Corbin Tourism and Convention Commission accepted her resignation at a special called meeting that took place Monday evening. She also added that she will be working in the days ahead to ensure a smooth transition, and that she will do what she can to help make sure upcoming events that she had a hand in planning will continue as scheduled.
“I will still be involved in Corbin, and the growth that is taking place in Corbin,” Monhollen said. “I have poured my heart and soul into this community, and I have gotten so much in return.”
The tourism board has already announced that applications are being accepted to fill the soon-to-be executive director position. They are asking that resumes be e-mailed to info@corbinkytourism.com by the deadline of April 12. More details on job requirements can be online at www.corbinkytourism.com.
“I am so appreciative of the support and the appreciation that the citizens and the community have given to me,” Monhollen said when asked to address those that she has had the chance to work with, and work for, over the past decade. “I am so proud of what the tourism commission has been able to do along with the city. It has truly been such an honor and a pleasure to have served in this capacity.”
