Whitley Co. deputies searching for scam artist

 Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man they say scammed a homeowner out of $4,000.

According to Sheriff Colan Harrell the scammer, for whom and arrest warrant has been issued, is identified as Mark Anthony Adams, 21, of Hicks Lane in London.

On Feb. 20, Adams reportedly came to the victim’s home, telling the homeowner he was a worker for Cumberland Valley Rural Electric Community Cooperative and he was there to install lightening rods to protect the victim’s home.

After the rods were installed, Adams allegedly told the owner the rods cost $8,000. However, he dropped the price to $4,000 after the homeowner refused to pay.

“Adams told the victim he would lose his job if he didn’t get at least $4,000,” Harrell stated. “The victim issued a check to Adams for $4,000.”

Harrell said Adams returned to the home on another day with a chainsaw to cut trees. The homeowner told him to leave and contacted the sheriff’s department, which led to the investigation.
