Four agencies involved in North Corbin meth bust
A joint effort by Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies, Williamsburg Police, state police and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led to the arrest of three people on meth trafficking charges Thursday morning.
Thirty-five-year-old Michael Helton, 23-year-old Herschel Sullivan and 41-year-old Darryl Moore, all of Corbin, were arrested following a traffic stop on Ky. 770.
According to Sheriff Root, Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird contacted deputies early Thursday morning with information about a possible meth transaction at a business parking lot in North Corbin.
Law enforcement set up surveillance in the parking lot, noting a suspicious vehicle entering and leaving the parking lot twice within a few minutes.
Root stated that officers initiated a traffic stop on the silver Pontiac Grand Prix that Helton was driving.
Helton admitted to officers that he had used meth earlier and was under the influence of suboxone. Root stated that Helton was found to be in possession of several baggies of a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine, along with several hypodermic needles.
Helton was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, – methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants, failure to wear seatbelts and failure to produce insurance card.
Moore and Sullivan were each charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
All three subjects were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
Officers involved in the investigation included: Laurel County Sheriff’s Detective James Sizemore, Sergeant Brett Reeves and Deputy Shawn Boroviak, Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird, K-9 Officer Brandon Prewitt and Detective Bobby Freeman, KSP Troopers T. Dingess and L. Moses and an ATF special agent.
