UPDATE: Gray man who allegedly made ‘threats’ on Lexington businesses in Whitley County Jail
A Gray man on the run from Lexington Police for more than week and reportedly at a medical facility in Corbin is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center.
36-year-old James A Caldwell, who is wanted for making threats toward several Lexington businesses, various individuals, the general public, and himself, reportedly checked himself in at the facility Monday morning.
Lexington Police Lt. Brian Maynard said he could not confirm that information.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Lloyd Cochran, public affairs officer at Post 11 in London, said troopers were notified Wednesday that Caldwell was at the facility and was about to be released.
Trooper Mike Witt was dispatched to the scene and took Caldwell into custody without incident about 2 p.m. Caldwell was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
Officials said it will be up to law enforcement from Fayette County to return Caldwell to Lexington.
Lexington Police began searching for Caldwell on May 27 after he reportedly left a threatening letter at the home of a person he knows. Caldwell was later reported missing from the Lexington residence where he had been staying.
Lexington Police stated previously that they believe Caldwell has mental health issues.
Later that day, Caldwell was reportedly seen on video surveillance at the Dairy Queen in London.
Police issued the arrest warrant, charging Caldwell with stalking and terroristic threatening.
Caldwell’s brother, Neil Caldwell, told WKYT that he believes his brother is just scared after realizing how big of an issue this has become.
