Hart officially resigns as head coach of Lady Hounds softball
Earlier this week, Chris Hart made it official that he will be stepping down as head coach of the Corbin Lady Redhounds softball program.
“Many factors came into play while making this decision,” Hart said when asked why he chose now to walk away from CHS softball. “My daughter, Hannah, is moving on to play ball at the collegiate level, and I would like to be able to watch her. I am also looking forward to spending more time with my son, who is in eighth grade. Honestly, I just felt like it was time for me to take a break.”
During his tenure as head coach of the Lady Hounds (2007-2014), Hart led the team to an overall record of 143 wins and 127 losses, and he was voted 13th Region Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2012.
In 2009, Hart guided the team to a district title and an appearance in the region championship game. Under his leadership, the Lady Hounds won a school record 21 games in 2013, and made it back to the region finals.
Corbin has also won the SEKC title seven of the eight years that Hart has been in place as head coach. He has sent ten players on to play at the college level, including three seniors from the 2014 squad, he has twice been elected president of the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association, he has coached three times in the East/West Kentucky All-Stars Series, and twice, including this year, he was named as a coach for the Kentucky All-Stars team.
“I’ve had a good career,” said Hart. “I’ve accomplished a lot. I just hope that I have left a lasting impact on the lives of the players that I’ve had the opportunity to coach along the way. I wanted to teach them that life is about more than just softball, and I wanted them to learn that, with hard work and dedication, you can achieve anything.”
When asked about the future of the Corbin softball program, Hart said, “I will miss coaching the girls, especially those that will be returning next year, but I am also confident that I am leaving the program in good shape. I believe they have a bright future ahead of them.”
As for his personal plans for the future, Hart said, “I love the game of fast pitch softball, and I will continue to be involved with it.”
“I want to continue to learn more about the game, and I would like to start giving private lessons soon. I do see coaching as part of my what’s ahead for me, but right now I just don’t know when or where that might be.”
