Corbin Police investigating bomb threat at Applebee’s
Applebee’s restaurant in Corbin was evacuated for more than an hour Thursday morning in response to a bomb threat.
According to Corbin Police Major Rob Jones, a call came into the restaurant about 12:30 a.m. The individual told a staff members there was a bomb in the building.
Applebee’s management contacted Corbin Police.
Officer Steve Meadors responded and the restaurant was evacuated. Williamsburg Police brought the department’s bomb dog. The dog failed to alert on any explosives in the building.
About 1:20 a.m., Applebee’s management determined it was a false alarm and the employees returned to work.
Jones said there were several customers in the restaurant at the time, as well.
Meadors and Corbin Police Detective Rusty Hedrick are continuing the investigation.
Jones said the perpetrator may be charged with second-degree terroristic threatening. Under Kentucky Law, the charge is a class D felony carrying a potential prison sentence of one to five years.
