State Police find nine grams of meth, handgun during stop at traffic checkpoint
A Corbin man was arrested on drug trafficking and weapon charges Thursday morning after state police found nine grams of methamphetamine and a semi automatic handgun he allegedly tried to hide in his truck.
According to Trooper Lloyd Cochran, public affairs officer at post 11 in London, 27-year-old James Rose of Corbin was arrested approximately 12:15 a.m. at a traffic safety checkpoint at the intersection of U.S 25W and Bee Creek Road.
Troopers Tony Dingess and Les Moses reported that during roadside questioning, Rose appeared to be nervous and fidgeting and was seen attempting to conceal something in the truck.
A search of the vehicle turned up the crystal methamphetamine along with marijuana, digital scales, other drug paraphernalia and $215 in cash. In addition, officers recovered a semi automatic handgun.
Rose was charged with first-degree traffic in a controlled substance, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana – less than eight ounces, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and various traffic charges.
Rose was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond. If Rose does post bond, he will be subject to home monitoring via an ankle bracelet.
