Ross Ready to Wear to build Corbin store; plans to open in spring 2015

Demolition began this week on a portion of the Trademart Shopping Center in Corbin to make way for Ross Ready to Wear, a national clothing store. It is expected to open in spring 2015.
Demolition of the building that once housed the old Goldenberg’s Furniture store and Regency 7 Cinemas at Trademart Shopping Center began Tuesday. The 35,000 square foot area is being demoed to make room for a Ross retail store, with hopes of an opening sometime in spring 2015.
Dale Chaffin, property manager for the shopping center, said the building should be completely torn down in “a week or two.” He also laid out a very simplified guideline for the entire process, saying, “You got a demo phase, a site and development phase, a construction phase and then you got a building.”
Corbin’s Building Inspector Frank Burke said he has the plans for the store in his office and has issued a local permit for construction but the state hasn’t signed off on it yet.
The new building won’t take up the entire area that’s being torn down. Current plans have the retail store taking up roughly 23,000 square feet and stretching from the brick wall that sat in front of the old movie theater to the empty Check Into Cash building.
The area where Taco Tico stands will not be affected at the moment, though that could be something that could happen in the future.
“The parcel there is still available to lease. If anyone ever leased it, it would have to be a new building. So, it’ll be torn down and made a new building. Or, it has to be renovated and made into a new building,” said Chaffin.
In addition to removing the structure, the surrounding area will be leveled and beautified with grass and landscaping.
“It’s going to be nice,” said Chaffin.
