911 call leads to attempted burglary arrest

Kenny Prewitt was recently arrested by Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies and charged with attempted burglary and DUI.

A 911 call that suggested someone was attempting to break into the Canadatown Market early Saturday morning resulted in the arrest of a Williamsburg man on multiple charges.

Deputy James Tabor charged Kenny Ray Prewitt, 47, of Highway 1481, with driving while under the influence, third-degree criminal attempt to commit burglary, third-degree criminal trespass, failure to produce a vehicle insurance card and failure to register or transfer registration of a motor vehicle.

The 911 caller Saturday provided authorities with a description of a male suspect and a truck that the suspect was believed to be driving.

Tabor was the first officer to arrive at the scene and located a 2000 model Chevrolet pickup truck matching the suspect’s vehicle, according to a Whitley County Sheriff’s Department release.

Tabor stopped the vehicle and made contact with Prewitt, who was allegedly unaware of the time of day and showed signs of intoxication, according to the release.

Prewitt was arrested and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center about 3:15 a.m. Saturday. He was released Sunday evening on a $1,500 cash bond.

Deputies Jonas Saunders and Brian Hensley assisted Tabor at the scene Saturday.
