86-year-old Williamsburg man killed in Thursday crash
A motor vehicle crash late Thursday morning claimed the life of a Williamsburg man.
About 11:30 a.m., Kentucky State Police from Post 11 in London responded to the two-vehicle collision, which occurred at the intersection of US25W (Cumberland Falls Highway) and Angel Road in Whitley County, according to a KSP release.
The initial investigation indicated that Ralph Lyttle, 86, of Williamsburg, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado when he attempted to turn left onto Angel Road. His vehicle entered into the path of a 1998 Freightliner empty log truck that was traveling south and being driven by Randall L. Bowlin, 59, of Williamsburg, according to the release.
As a result of the collision, Lyttle suffered life-threatening injuries. The Whitley County Coroner’s Office pronounced him deceased.
The accident and the ensuing investigation resulted in traffic being tied up on the roadway for about four hours Thursday, according to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department.
KSP Trooper Matthew Brumley is continuing the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by Post 11 personnel, the Whitley County Sherriff’s Office, Whitley County EMS, local firefighters, and the Whitley County Coroner’s Office.
Lyttle was the owner/operator of Lyttle’s Telephone and installed the telephone systems of numerous local businesses. He was the voice of many automated answering systems in the area for years, according to his obituary.
Lyttle was also a member of Shiner Church of Christ where he served faithfully as a teacher, deacon and elder for over 50 years.
A celebration of life service was held Monday at Shiner Church of Christ with burial following at the Sutton-Pemberton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the Shiner Church of Christ’s food ministry.
Ellison Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
