17th Street Christian Church members dedicate time, resources to help flooding victims in Rainelle, WV

The state of emergency in West Virginia has left towns devastated. The loss of roads, businesses, homes and most importantly, loved ones, has wreaked havoc through the state, leaving many with nothing but sheer loss.

State officials have reported that at least 23 people have died in the floods, 15 of which were located in the city of Rainelle. This disastrous condition of West Virginia touches home for one local member of 17th Street Christian Church, whose parents reside in Rainelle.

Though Denver King’s parents were not directly affected in the flooding, they have witnessed first-hand all of the damage that has occurred in their community. When Denver asked for prayer for the people of Rainelle on Sunday morning. By that evening, a plan had been made by the church to help that community.

Don King, an elder of the church, says the goal was to load two of the church’s vans full of supplies and leave as soon as possible. That goal was reached Wednesday, June 29th when the two vans left filled with basic supplies, bottled water, canned goods, blankets, paper products, eating utensils, pillows, crock-pots and much more.

The church plans to make another trip on Friday, July 8th and if anyone, business or individuals, would like to help you can drop off your donations on Wednesday, July 6th or Thursday, July 7th. The minister of the church Randy Wickham stated that anything you might think has been destroyed is welcome.

A major request has been for small electric devices. This includes crock-pots, toasters, hot plates, pans, skillets and other things needed to cook with.  Racks, shovels, and flashlights are needed as well. At this time no more water is needed and they can’t take any furniture or clothing.
