13th Region Volleyball
The 13th Region Volleyball Tournament will begin Monday at Knox Central High School. Preseason favorite South Laurel drew into the top bracket and will play tournament host, Knox Central at 7:30 p.m.
The first-round will get underway with the Lady Generals of Jackson County (18-7) taking on the Bell County Lady Bobcats (8-14) at 6 p.m.
South Laurel (28-6) will play the Lady Panthers (4-14) at 7:30.
Tuesday night, local teams Corbin (17-15) and Whitley County (20-10) will battle from the bottom bracket. Corbin will take on 52nd winner, Harlan County (16-4) at 6 p.m. Whitley County will play Clay County (10-20) at approximately, 7:30 p.m.
Four of the top five teams in the 13th region will battle from the lower bracket. No. 2 Whitley County, No.3 Corbin, No. 4 Harlan County and No. 5 Clay County.
The semifinals will be played at 6-7:30 Thursday with the championship scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
Whitley County Coach David Halcomb said. “I like my draw, but we realize it is going to be tough coming out of the lower bracket. All four teams are capable of coming out of there,” he said.
