2022 saw several history-making achievements in local athletics

Since this week’s edition is serving as a retrospective of the most talked about events of the past 12 months, I would like to take the opportunity to look back at the biggest sports stories of 2022.

State tournament game was marred by controversial call

Although I was not present at last Friday’s KHSAA baseball state tournament contest between Corbin and Central Hardin, I am well aware of the bizarre series of events that occurred in the fourth inning that put the Redhounds at a disadvantage, and likely cost them the game.

Old-fashion baseball on display at Whitley County Saturday

I witnessed some old-fashioned baseball on Saturday. The game was Whitley County hosting Rockcastle County on a cold windy day. I stayed for a few innings as I was getting pictures. I’m not the diehard that I used to be when the weather could do anything and I was staying until...

Time for somewhere else to deal with curse of 13th Region

Where have you gone Corbin Basketball fans?

I left Gilliam Gym at Corbin High School Friday night with a question lingering more than ever that has been on my mind all season. Where was Corbin? I’m not talking about the players. I’m willing to bet that they would tell you it wasn’t their best game, realize what they need...

Ditch the traditional, ‘Ladies,’ or create appropriate logos

The girls’ basketball district tournaments are under way. The girls wrestling tournament was held Monday. Spring sports, including softball, along with tennis and track for both the boys and girls will begin in just a few weeks. Corbin’s Lady Redhounds, Whitley County’s Lady...

Every sport is about the team and supporting teammates in action

Sports like cross country, golf, wrestling, tennis and track and field are unique in that while athletes are competing as part of a team, they have the opportunity to win individual titles as well. At the Region 7 wrestling tournament Saturday at McCreary Central, Corbin’s Seth...
