After a 5-1 loss to the Hazard Bulldogs in round one of the 2018 KHSAA state baseball tournament Thursday, the Corbin Redhounds ended their season with a 24-13 record.

With a 17-10 victory over Whitley County Wednesday evening, the Corbin Redhounds baseball team won their first 13th Region championship title since the 2005 season.

After Tuesday night’s high school baseball and softball action we now know who will be contending for 13th Region championships later this week.

Update (Thursday): Corbin has once again swept the district, with the softball team winning their second consecutive 50th District crown, and the baseball team capturing their third straight championship trophy.

As reported in last week’s edition of the News Journal, a total of 18 high school tennis players from the coverage area are slated to compete in this year’s KHSAA state championships in Lexington.

The Corbin Redhounds baseball team secured the top spot in the 50th District this week after achieving an undefeated record in regular season district play.

For the second night in a row, the Corbin Redhounds squared off against the Whitley County Colonels while the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets faced the South Laurel Cardinals.

Regular season district play opened up Tuesday for area high school baseball teams, with the Whitley County Colonels hosting the Corbin Redhounds and the South Laurel Cardinals hosting the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets.
