Chester Chambers

On June 11th, 2023 a Sunday, the day of rest, the Lord called Chester Chambers of Williamsburg, Kentucky to his heavenly home and eternal resting place.
Chester passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by an abundance of his dearest loved ones. Chester was a man of God, who lived a beautiful, long life following the Lord. Chester was born in Williamsburg, Kentucky to Obediah Chambers and Mary Jane (Lawson) Chambers.
Later, he met and married the love of his ‘late’ wife of 61 years, Marie (Rose) Chambers. Together they moved north to Toledo, Ohio where Chester worked and retired from General Motors. While in Toledo, they built a beautiful family full of infinite love and laughter.
After their children were grown, together they decided to move back south where he established his most cherished cattle farm. Chester had many accomplishments in his life, however, if you asked him what his biggest one was, he would tell you, aside from worshiping the Lord, being a proud member and song leader of his church, a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family, his farm was his most prized possession. He lived to take care of his gardens, bringing him the most pride and joy. He spent his days ensuring his home was full of beautiful plants and had the most pristine landscaping. Erma Bombeck once said, “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me’.” Anyone who knew Chester, knows how fitting this quote applied to him as he put his all into everything he did, most importantly being an inspiring son of God, his pre and post-retirement work ethic , and a loving and devoted family man. Chester was a one of a kind man, who loved his family and endlessly reminded them how proud they made him.
Chester is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie (Rose) Chambers; mother, Mary Jane Chambers; father, Obediah Chambers; numerous siblings, Raymond Lawson, Effie Croley, Ernest Lawson, Geneva Anne Van Etten, Dori Ellen Lawson, J.V. Lawson, Arthur Lawson, Dewey Chambers; and other special family members and friends.
Chester is survived by children, Gary “Pete”(Faye) Chambers of Williamsburg, Kentucky, Dennis Chambers of Hazard, Kentucky, Brenda (Tim) Douglas of Toledo, Ohio, and Debbie (Larry) Long of Maumee, Ohio; grandchildren, Jesse (Erica) Chambers, Danny (Stephanie) Thomas, Brooke (Ryan) Davidson, Holly Douglas, Hannah Douglas, Andrew Douglas, Kayla Long, Katelyn Long, and Adelynn Long; along with a great extent of loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other significant family members and special friends.
Visitation will be at 11:00 AM until the funeral hour on Sunday, June 18, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tyler Jones and Rev. Ronnie Rose officiating.
He will be laid to rest in the Clearfork Baptist Church Cemetery.
Croley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Main Squeeze Lemonade Stand Contest being held Friday in downtown Williamsburg

Williamsburg’s first new event of the year is coming Friday, and if you like lemonade, it may be just the event for you.

The Main Squeeze Lemonade Stand Contest is coming to the Green Space on Main from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., where enterprising young citizens will be vying for the title of Williamsburg’s “Main” Squeeze. While the stands are expected to have lemonade available for those in attendance, the competition is specifically for the best decorated stand.

Contestants must be 12 years of age or under.

All lemonade served during the event must be made at home beforehand and brought to the site due to health department regulations. However, ice or garnishes can be added to the cups while at the event.

Cups will be provided to contestants, though you may bring your own.

Those wishing to compete must register beforehand. To register for the event, contact Williamsburg Main Street Manager Jonathan Wyatt at (606) 280-0872. The deadline to register is Friday at noon.

Wyatt said there will be specific criteria for judging of the stands and urged those who compete to “be creative.”

Following the contest will be the season’s first Movie in the Park at Bill Woods Park. The new Super Mario Bros. animated film will be showing during the event, which will begin at dusk.

In the case of inclement weather, the contest will be postponed until the next Movie in the Park on July 14.
