You are hereby notified that the Planning and Zoning Committee of the City of Williamsburg, Kentucky, will hold a meeting on August 22, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Williamsburg City Hall Council Chambers located at 423 Main Street, Williamsburg, Kentucky, to consider the following:

1)  an application filed by Mark Akins for a Planned Residential Development to be located on a vacant area off Highway 25W North behind the State Farm Insurance Agency (Mike Howard, Agent);

2)  amending the Zoning Ordinance concerning R-2 (Duplex & Multi-Family Residential) Districts to consider the following:

  1. a) reduce the area of the minimum lot size required for a single family home from 6000 square feet to 5000 square feet;
  2. b) reduce the width of the minimum lot size required for a single family home from 60 feet to 50 feet;
  3. c) reduce the area of the minimum lot size required for a duplex from 10,000 square feet to 5000 square feet; and
  4. d) reduce the width of the minimum lot size required for a duplex from 100 feet to 50 feet.

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO MINE

Pursuant to Application Number 861-0543 Amendment 01

In accordance with the provisions of KRS 350.070, notice is hereby given that Mountainside Coal Co., LLC, 7692 S. Hwy 25-W, Williamsburg, KY, has applied for an Amendment to an existing surface coal mining and reclamation operation located 2.5 miles northwest of Permon in Knox and Whitley Counties. The amendment will add 79.5 acres of surface disturbance making a total area of 416.5 acres within the revised permit boundary.

The Amendment area is approximately 1.2 miles north of the intersection of Hwy 779 and Hwy 1418 and located 0.02 miles west of Flat Creek and 1.6 miles north of Cotton Creek.

The proposed amendment is located on the Barbourville & Rockholds U.S.G.S. 7-1/2 minute quadrangle maps. The surface area to be disturbed by the amendment is owned by William Wayne Hubbs, Calvin Jones, Brandon Pratt, Carolyn A Moses, Vicki Partin, Gino Cima, Debbie Lawson, Joyce Lawson, Robin DeBry, and Venda Hill. The operation will use the contour and auger methods of mining.

The amendment application has been filed for public inspection at the Department for Natural Resources, Division of Mine Reclamation and Enforcement’s Middlesboro Regional Office, 1804 East Cumberland Avenue, Middlesboro, KY 40965-1229. Written comments, objections, or requests for a permit conference must be filed with the Director, Division of Permits, 300 Sower Blvd. Frankfort, Kentucky 40601.

 

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO MINE

Pursuant to Application No. 918-0513 NW

In accordance with the provisions of KRS 350.055, notice is hereby given that Torchlight Energy, Inc., P.O. Box 1245, 1658 Torchlight Road, Louisa, KY 41230, has applied for a permit for an auger coal mining and reclamation operation located approximately 2.5 miles north of Louden, Kentucky in Whitley County. The proposed operation will disturb 27.79 surface acres within the permit boundary.

The proposed operation is approximately 0.5 mile south Bear Hollow Ln’s junction with KY Route 779 and 0.2 mile south of Caney Branch.

The proposed operation is located on the Rockholds USGS 7 ½ minute quadrangle map. The surface area to be disturbed is owned by C.J. Clark and Randy Johnson.

The application has been filed for public inspection at the Division of Mine Reclamation and Enforcement’s Middlesboro Regional Office, 1804 E. Cumberland Ave., Middlesboro, Kentucky 40965. Written comments, objections, or requests for a permit conference must be filed with the Director of the Division of Mine Permits, 300 Sower Boulevard, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601.

 

NOTICE TO WHITLEY COUNTY TAXPAYERS

Carolyn Willis, Whitley County Clerk, pursuant to KRS 424.130, and the Whitley County Fiscal Court, announces that the 2022 Delinquent Real Property Tax Bills (Certificates of Delinquency) will be published in the News Journal Newspaper on August 16th, 2023.

The list of Certificates of Delinquency is also available for public inspection during the hours of 7:30 am – 5:30 pm on Mondays and 7:30 am – 4:30 pm Tuesdays through Fridays, at the Whitley County Clerk’s office located at 200 Main St. {Courthouse} Room 2, Williamsburg, KY.  This list may also be inspected on the Software Management, LLC website at:  kydtax.smllc.us.

The tax sale will be held on September 21st, 2023 beginning at 9:00 am.  All interested participants must register with the Whitley County Clerk’s office by the close of business on September 11th, 2023.

Please contact the Whitley County Clerk’s office if you need additional information about the tax sale registration process.  Taxpayers can continue to pay their delinquent tax bills to the Whitley County Clerk’s office any time prior to the tax sale. Some delinquencies – although they have been advertised – will be excluded from the tax sale in accordance with the provisions of KRS 134.504(10)(b).

The following methods of payment will be accepted by the Clerk’s office from third party purchasers:  Cash, Check, and Debit/Credit Cards.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Whitley County Clerk’s office at 606-549-6002.

 

W’burg woman arrested after using fraudulent checks from deceased friend

A Williamsburg woman is facing charges after allegedly cashing or trying to cash fraudulent checks at a local business on a closed account that belonged to a deceased woman, according to a Williamsburg Police Department release.

W’burg woman accused of trying to run over boyfriend with a car; boyfriend pleads guilty to fourth-degree assault

Williamsburg police arrested a local woman Saturday for felony assault after she allegedly tried to run over her boyfriend with a vehicle. Her boyfriend pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor assault charge in connection with the same domestic disturbance, according to a Williamsburg Police Department release.
