Whitley County voters went to the polls Tuesday and during three days of early voting last week, and unsurprisingly threw their support behind Republican candidates running for statewide office, including: governor, attorney general, secretary of state, treasurer, auditor of public accounts and agriculture commissioner.

Bellena Wilburn of Corbin casts her ballot during Tuesday’s statewide elections.

Election Day voting will take place from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. today, Nov. 6, at eight voting centers located throughout Whitley County, including locations at Williamsburg Independent School, Whitley County High School, Pleasant View Elementary School, Whitley East Elementary School, Whitley North Elementary School, Oak Grove Elementary School, Corbin City Hall and Sanders Creek Church, which is in the Canadatown area.
Previously, you could only cast your Election Day ballot at your voting precinct out of which there were 36 located in Whitley County, but now you can cast your Election Day ballot at any of the eight voting centers.
The most prominent race on Tuesday’s ballot will be the gubernatorial race, which will pit incumbent Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear and incumbent Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman against Republican challenger Attorney General Daniel Cameron and his running mate Robert M. “Robby” Mills, who is running for Lt. Governor.
Several other statewide races will also be on the ballot, including:
There is one local, uncontested race on some Whitley County ballots as Paula Parker Grubb is unopposed in her bid to fill out the unexpired Whitley County Board of Education Third-District seat.
Grubb was appointed to the position in early February following the resignation of board member Malorie Cooper, who moved outside of the district.
Paul D. Dole, President/CEO of KCEOC Community Action Partnership, was awarded the 2023 Southeastern Association of Community Action Agencies (SEACAA) Men of Excellence Award during the 2023 SEACAA conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Sept. 21.
The Men of Excellence Award was created to celebrate the lifelong work of men in Community Action.
“Men are underrepresented in the Community Action world, and SEACAA wanted to take this time to celebrate them. Paul Dole was chosen for Kentucky by the Community Action Kentucky board of directors because he has dedicated almost 50 years of his life to helping families, children and communities thrive. Paul has worked on the community, state, and national levels championing causes of poverty. Paul is the godfather of community action and we had to celebrate him!” said Catrena Bowman, president of the SEACAA board.
“I am honored to receive the 2023 Men of Excellence Award from SEACAA,” said Dole. “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire Community Action network, and I am grateful to be a part of such a committed and inspiring group of people.”
Dole thanked the SEACAA Board of Directors for the recognition, the Community Action of Kentucky Board of Directors for nominating him, his colleagues and staff at KCEOC for their tireless support, and the community members he serves.
“It is their stories of resilience and determination that motivate me to do this work,” said Dole. “I believe that people fighting their way out of poverty deserve no less than excellence from the community action agency they are trusting to help them.”
