He was born on July 1, 1936 in Williamsburg, to the late Amos Pascal Powers and Cynthia (Perkins) Powers.\u00a0 He was also preceded in death by a sister, Senia Beatrice Powers Stockton. He was retired from the United States Army 101st Airborne having served our country for over 33 years. He served in the USMC in Korea and two tours of Vietnam 1st Calvary.\u00a0 He was the co-founder of VFW Post 3167 of Williamsburg and co-founder of the Whitley County JROTC Cadet Command.\u00a0 He was a member of the Williamsburg Shriners, Masonic Lodge #490 F &amp; AM, Kentucky Admiral, Kentucky Colonel, VFW, DAV,\u00a0 Non Commission Officers Association, American Vets, the Yaden Worship Center and the Kentucky Educators Association. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shelby Smith Powers of Williamsburg; three sons, Tracy Powers (Debbie), Scott Powers and Travis Powers (Tracy) all of Williamsburg; four grandsons, Josh Powers, Zach Powers, Jared Powers and Kaden Powers; three granddaughters, Bethany Powers, Cynthia Shea Powers and Katy Powers; nephews, Charles Gregory Stockton, Terry Smith and Gary Smith; special niece, Georgia Wagers; very special great-nephew, Todd Lewis; a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday, August 26, at Croley Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, August 26, by the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge #490 F &amp; AM. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 27, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerome McCullah and Maj. Scott Powers (Ret) officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Smith Family Cemetery.\u00a0 Military honors will be conducted by the Whitley County JROTC.
