Deputies were called to the scene just after 8 p.m. in response to a theft complaint at the stand set up outside the Bait Bucket store. Multiple witnesses had reported seeing the theft in progress and had notified the female business owner who came to the scene. \u201cWhen the owner approached the suspect, he attempted to use force and while attempting to flee almost ran over the female victim\/owner,\u201d Root stated. \u201cThe suspect sped away from the scene almost striking another vehicle.\u201d Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department\u2019s public affairs officer, said deputies tracked, the suspect, later identified as Bennett, down and took him into custody about 3 a.m. Wednesday. However, they were unable to recover any of the fireworks. Bennett was initially charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree wanton endangerment and transported to the sheriff\u2019s office to be processed. While at the sheriff\u2019s office, Root stated that Bennett became combated with deputies, reportedly attempting to kick them, damaging the wall and bench in the booking room. As a result, Bennett was also charged with third-degree criminal mischief, menacing and resisting arrest. \u201cThis subject had to be physically escorted to the Laurel County Detention Center,\u201d Root stated. Bennett is being held in the detention center on a $25,000 cash bond."}
