Ronnie Bowling, who won the Republican primary for Commonwealth Attorney in May, is a life long native of Whitley County. He played football for Corbin High School before attending and playing football at the University of the Cumberlands. Following his return to Whitley County after completing law school, Bowling was asked to become the new voice of Redhound football. Bowling called his first full season for the Redhounds in 2016. In 2017, he was forced off the air after his opponent in the race for Commonwealth Attorney, Corbin attorney Graham Trimble, filed a letter requesting equal air time from the radio station. The claim came after Bowling called the first game of the 2017 season. Because Bowling had announced his intent to run for office, he was considered a candidate by the Federal Communication Commission’s equal time rule. Although Bowling did not use his time on air to discuss politics or his campaign, a precedent set in Texas required stations to count the time Bowling called the football game in the equal air time total given to Bowling’s opponent. According to Bowling, Trimble was offered the opportunity to call a game or make up the time in a block, but Trimble never exercised this right to Bowling’s knowledge. Bowling said that it is unclear what role this situation played in the election, but from conversations he had with community members, some individuals seemed turned off by it. Bowling said that it was always his intention to return to the booth after the election had ended. “I was humbled by how many people reached out and offered support when I was removed,” said Bowling. “You don’t appreciate how many people listen to you until you’re gone.” Bowling has discussed his return with the broadcasting company, Eubanks Broadcasting Company, and he said that he intends to announce the entire season this fall. The Corbin High School Football season kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on August 18 with a home game against Whitley County, according to Kentucky High School Athletics Association."}
