Grace on the Hill, the recipient of the donated items, brought a box truck to the Speedway gas station on Cumberland Falls Highway to pick up the items on Feb. 26. Corbin Police Department’s Major Coy Wilson said the donations exceeded his expectations. Wilson estimates that the event received at least $2,000 worth of donations including some cash donations. “It was a success,” Wilson said. Another event is already in the works for February 2023. “Speedway and the Seven-Eleven Corporation have been really good to the community as far as doing this,” said Wilson. Wilson said this event is something the police department plans to be involved with moving forward. “We were excited to participate and partner with Speedway in order to take up the money and donations for the food pantry,” said Wilson. Just because the food drive has ended doesn’t mean the community’s opportunity to help local food banks has. Donations can still be dropped off at the Corbin Police Department or given directly to the food pantry at Grace on the Hill or other food banks throughout the community.
