The teen, identified as 17-year-old Cheyanna Bowles, was a passenger on the ATV driven by another 17-year-old on South Old Whitley Road. Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies determined that as the ATV reached the bottom of the hill, the driver of the ATV failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The ATV dropped off the roadway and over a 15-foot embankment before striking a tree and overturning in a creek. Lily Fire Department and London-Laurel County Rescue Squad were called to the scene to remove the teens from the scene to the waiting ambulances. Lily Fire Chief Paul Collins said emergency personnel used Stokes baskets to get the teens back up the embankment. “We formed a human chain and passed them up the hill,” Collins said. Bowles and the other teen were both taken to Saint Joseph London where Bowles died from the injuries she had received. Deputy Kyle Gray along with Sgt. Larry Parrott and deputies Brandon Broughton and Travis Napier are continuing the investigation. Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County also assisted at the scene.
